The story of this quilt’s origin began with Glen Maust’s interest in the many old barns he noticed on his frequent visits to Kentucky. He began stopping to take pictures of them and eventually he talked to his mother, Lucy Maust about designing a quilt featuring the barns. Lucy was up for the challenge, having designed and pieced many quilts in the past. She had the photos printed on fabric by a company in England and designed the borders and other blocks, keeping with the rustic theme of the barns. Kentucky Barns will be on display with other quilts in the forenoon and auctioned in the afternoon at Country Fest this year. If you stop by the quilt room, you may have the opportunity to meet Lucy and you will find Glen busy in the auction building.
